21/06 - 8° giorno. Velanidia - Neapoli, 17 miglia (31 km)
Ci svegliamo prima dell'alba. Vogliamo sfruttare al massimo il corridoio di calma del mattino per passare Capo Maleas. Con Capo Tenaro sono considerati una sorta di Capo Horn del Mediterraneo, il passaggio e' ritenuto impegnativo anche per le barche a vela piu' grandi.
Alle 5.30 siamo gia' in acqua. Il mare e' buono.
Solo altissime scogliere ci accompagnano fino al Capo. Evitiamo di perdere tempo per il forte vento previsto e soprattutto per l'assenza di ridossi.
Doppiamo il Capo passando sotto lo splendido faro e, subito dopo, sotto il monastero di Santa Irene (Aghia Irini). Il vento (e mare mosso...) non tarda ad arrivare. Navigazione faticosa e difficile fino a Neapoli, ma finalmente le nostre bussole segnano rotta Ovest.
Nel pomeriggio oltre 30 nodi di vento ci bloccano nuovamente a terra.
Maria e Gristos, con cui eravamo rimasti in contatto in caso di problemi, ci raggiungono.

21/06 - 8° day. Velanidia - Neapoli, 17 miglia (31 km)
We wake before dawn. We want to maximize the corridor of calm in the morning to go to Cape Maleas. With Cape Tenaro are considered a sort of Cape Horn in the Mediterranean, passing is considered challenging even for the large sailboats. At 5.30 we are ready in water. The sea is good.
Only high cliffs take us to Cape. We avoid losing time for the expected strong winds and especially the lack of shelter. After rounding the Cape, passing under the beautiful lighthouse, and soon after, in the Monastery of St. Irene (Agia Irini). The wind (and big waves ...) is not slow in coming. Navigation tiring and difficult to Neapolis, but finally our compasses marked route West. In the afternoon more than 30 knots of wind stop us back to land.
